Cyanotype
Cyanotype is an alternative photographic printing process, using a photosensible formula based on ferric ions. Exposing a surface coated with this formula to the sun light will trigger a chemical reaction, producing a dark blue image, after being developped in a water bath.
Discovered by John Herschel in 1842, this process was used by botanist Anna Atkins to create a codex of algae from the British Isles, but also to reproduce plan at a large scale.
While laid aside for industrial usage, cyanotype is still used for artistic purposes.
Cyanophotographs/Cyanophotographies
Cyanophotographs are cyanotypes made in a camera, instead of contact printing.
Using the same chemicals, but in a different way, cyanophotography allows the creation of images directly from the camera, without any intermediary process.
